JUAN JOSÈ MOSALINI

Bandoneon

At the age of 13, despite a first self-taught training, he began playing in dance halls as a member of an orchestra consisting of four bandoneons, four violins, a piano, a bass and two singers. In 1961 he won the first prize in a competition held by Argentine television. Until 1976 he lived in Argentina, where he played with some of the most famous orchestras and soloists. He has composed, arranged, performed, accompanied and produced recordings with, among others, José Basso, Leopoldo Federico, Astor Piazzolla, Osvaldo Pugliese, Susana Rinaldi, Edmundo Rivero and Horacio Salgán. In 1977 he moved to France. Together with other Argentine musicians he formed the band Tiempo Argentino and recorded an album called “Tango Rojo” with the pianist Gustavo Beytelmann, the flutist Enzo Gieco and the guitarist Thomas Gubitsch. Later he formed the Canyengues quartet and released numerous recordings. Mosalini works to spread bandoneon knowledge and teaching in France and in 1999 he founded the first bandoneon course in Europe at the Gennevilliers Conservatory of Music. He was a guest of the Anton Stadler Association as part of the “ARTango & Jazz Festival”.
