He began playing percussion and flute as a self-taught, but at the age of five he began taking clarinet lessons at the Bari Conservatory. Under the influence of the music of Lester Young and John Coltrane, he chose the saxophone. After studying classical saxophone with Federico Mondelci in Perugia, he studied classical harmony and composition with Walter Boncompagni, Giacomo Manzoni and Luigi Nono. He has collaborated with numerous jazz musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Art Farmer, Mal Waldron, Albert Mangelsdorff, etc. As a music teacher, he has taken courses at Woodstock N.Y., among other things. and in the conservatories of Mexico City, Vienna and Groningen, in the cultural institutions of Urbino, Cagliari, Florence, Rome and Syracuse. In addition, he teaches jazz music at the N. Piccinni Conservatory in Bari. He was a guest of the Anton Stadler Association as part of the “International Chamber Music Festival”.
