Clarinet
Referred to as the “Russian gem” by the press, he was one of Russia’s best-known young talents. He has been playing the clarinet since he was seven and at the age of 12, he played his first solo concert with the Russian State Philharmonic of Kazan. He studied at the Russian State Conservatory and Karlsruhe with Prof. Wolfgang Meyer and later with Prof. Peter Löffler-Asal at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt, where he completed his postgraduate studies with honors in 2006. Roman Kuperschmidt received international recognition in 1995 when he was awarded the Grand Prize of the renowned Moscow International Clarinet Competition. His repertoire includes the most important classical works for clarinet but he is also particularly interested in modern music and klezmer, which he cultivates with his Kuperschmidt ensemble. He has performed as a soloist all over Europe, the United States, Israel and Lebanon. He was a guest of the Anton Stadler Association as part of “I concerti di Primavera”.
