International Bandoneón Competition Heinrich Band

ACTIVITIES

INTERNATIONAL BANDONEÒN COMPETITION “HEINRICH BAND”

The International Bandoneón Competition “Heinrich Band”, established in 2018, is the only competition in the world dedicated to instrumental composition and performance for bandoneόn.

It represents further proof of the strong cultural interest that revolves around this instrument which, although it is becoming increasingly known, is often traced back only to the tango genre, without appreciating the infinite potential that characterizes it and makes it suitable for many genres. music, from classical to jazz to contemporary music. This happens because most of the bandoneon repertoire has its roots in Rio-Plateau music and contemporary research compositions for this instrument are scarce.

The first edition of the competition therefore met the need of the bandoneonists to emancipate the bandoneόn as an instrument solely intended for the execution of the tango genre, thus constituting a new concert repertoire capable of giving new breath to the current bandoneon literature, innovating and enriching it, without denying the its origins.

This second edition, on the other hand, has the task of promoting and disseminating the culture and knowledge related to the bandoneón as a concert instrument capable of facing the great repertoire of the past and of promoting the creation and dissemination of new songs.

The competition is announced by the Anton Stadler Cultural Association and the Accademia Italiana del Bandoneón, with the contribution of the MIC Ministero della Cultura, Regione Autonoma della Sardegna-Assessorato Pubblica Istruzione, Beni Culturali, Informazione, Spettacolo e Sport, Comune di Iglesias-Assessorato Cultura, Sport e Spettacolo, Fondazione di Sardegna and in collaboration with the AR’TANGO-Bandoneon Project Association of Avignon.

Also very important is the partnership with the Bandonion4friends Association and the Bandonion & Concertina Fabrik of Klingental, which will offer a precious prize for the competitor who wins the 1st place.

The three finalists who will enter the final phase will perform, in a public concert, on 24 August 2022 on the occasion of the VIII edition of the International Bandoneon Masterclass realized in the context of the XIII ed. by ARTango & Jazz Festival.

The competition will then host an exceptional jury:
