MARLENE ITO

Violin

Marlene Ito studied violin with Goetz Richter at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Australia, and continued her studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Nora Chastain. Winner of the Max Rostal International Violin Competition 2006, Ito has participated as a soloist with orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Sydney Symphony, the National Radio Orchestra of Ireland, the Berliner Symphoniker, Hamburger Symphoniker and the Kammerakademie Potsdam with conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Ivan Fischer, Michael Sanderling, Georg Fritzsch and Richard Gill. He is a member of the Varian Fry Quartet which has performed in Asia, the United States and Europe. His chamber music colleagues include Andras Schiff, Tabea Zimmermann, Vineta Sareika (of the Artemis Quartet) and prominent members of the Berlin Philharmonic. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker and since 2020 Principal Leader of the 2nd Violin. He is also a member of the Faculty of Strings at the Berlin University of the Arts as an assistant to Prof. Nora Chastain. She has been a guest of the Anton Stadler Association, with the string quintet of the Berliner Philharmoniker, as part of the ARTango&Jazz Festival, XIII edition 2022.
