Concierto doble – 14 April 2024 – ARTango&Jazz Festival XV edition

We are happy to announce the first extraordinary concert for soloists and orchestra of the 15th edition of ARTango&Jazz Festival 2024 organised in collaboration with the G. P. da Palestrina Conservatory of Cagliari!

On Sunday, 14 April, at 7 p.m., will take place the ‘Concierto Doble‘ in the Auditorium of the Conservatory, a grand premiere performance featuring an ensemble of internationally renowned artists. On stage, in addition to our artistic director Fabio Furia, bandoneon soloist, we will have the honour of welcoming world guitar star Xuefei Yang together with pianist and composer Martin Palmeri, acclaimed among the most important living composers. Accompanying the prestigious soloists will be the Anton Stadler Orchestra conducted by Maestro Maurizio Dones.

Making this unique and special event even more special will be the repertoire, dedicated to the most iconic works of the two famous Argentine composers Astor Piazzolla and Martin Palmeri: an exciting fusion of the overwhelming energy typical of the Tango and the most modern and innovative suggestions deriving from jazz, symphonic and chamber music contaminations.

The concert will open with two great compositions by Astor Piazzolla: the Four Seasons, rich in nuances and emotions that outline the succession of the seasons. This will be followed by the double concerto for guitar, bandoneon and orchestra Hommage à Liège, his tribute to the Belgian city, with its complex and multifaceted form, rich in rhythmic and harmonic variations. Closing the performance will be the national premiere of the double concerto for bandoneon, guitar, piano and orchestra written by Argentine composer Martin Palmeri, who for the occasion will perform at the piano joining the soloists and orchestra. An extraordinary night of great music, in which the pathos and lyricism of the melodies on offer will follow the most vibrant rhythms of Tango music.

The valuable collaboration with the Cagliari Conservatory of music once again marks the pioneering role played by the Cagliari institution in the dissemination of the bandoneon, as it is the first and only conservatory in Italy to have set up an academic course aimed at the study of this fascinating instrument and the development of its teaching.
