Tango meets Jazz is inspired by the two albums that Astor Pizzolla released in 1974 (Summit) and 1986 (The New Tango) with saxophonist Gerry Mulligan and vibraphonist Gary Burton respectively.
The scores of the original tracks of the album The New Tango, most of which were composed especially for Gary Burton, have been lost and nothing has been published to date. The same fate befell the scores of the album that was the brainchild of Aldo Pagani, the Italian agent and publisher who had the intuition to bring Gary Mulligan and Astor Piazzolla together. The result was a masterpiece: Summit has now entered history. Tango Meets Jazz is a unique concert that fuses tango and jazz in a rare and exciting combination. A tribute to the great composer Astor Piazzolla and two great soloists, Gary Burton and Gerry Mulligan.
It is a tribute that goes beyond the classic compositions of the Argentine Maestro, aiming at the rediscovery of some masterpieces that have remained in the shadows or are little known and are just waiting to shine again on a stage and conquer more audiences.
